Tokyo Olympics to be held on time: IOC Vice President

Beijing, 9 January (IANS). International Olympic Committee (IOC) vice-chairman Yu Jiaqing has said that despite the Corona-related challenges, the IOC as well as host Japan are determined to hold the Tokyo Olympics in July-August.

Jiaquing’s statement comes after a statement by Dick Pound, the IOC’s longest-term member, in which he had told the BBC that the Tokyo Olympics were suspected in view of the current situation.

On this statement of the pound, the organizers of Tokyo 2020 said that they are preparing for the Olympics from July 23 to August 8, taking full care of the safety of the players and officials, taking every possible precaution.

Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihida Suga has said in the past that his country is determined to host the Tokyo Olympic Games, although the situation of the Kovid-19 epidemic in the country is deteriorating.

Suga told the press conference that he would be preparing with determination for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. He also said that he will take all possible measures against the virus and will provide hope and courage to the whole world.

The Tokyo Olympic Games were held in July-August last year, but it was postponed until 2021 due to the worldwide corona virus epidemic.
