In Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district, children and women are suffering from malnutrition which we would not have imagined. There are 35 thousand malnourished children in the district and four and a half thousand severely malnourished. The number of daughters is more in the undernourished. When the daughters were asked to go to the villages, they said- ‘Amma gives milk to Bhaiya for breakfast in the morning and we get tea, roti or bread.’ In fruits, nuts, etc., the turn of sons comes first.
Sons and daughters make a difference
While talking to the media, Kalawati, the in-charge of the Anganwadi center of Pathar village, told that such is the mindset of the people. People are also counseled to take equal care of sons and daughters. Yet people make a difference in the food of children. When you ask about daughters, people say that they do not eat anything and when they provide food, they eat a lot.
Anganwadi center remains closed
When we came to see the situation of malnutrition, we saw this first picture. Since the school was next door, we reached there. Just next to the gate, the Nyaya Panchayat Resource Center was locked. Earlier the Anganwadi center used to run in this.
Anganwadi center in-charge does not come
Later he started walking into a room inside the school. It was completely empty when I looked inside. The luggage of two teachers was kept in it. Principal Manju Lata and teacher Namrata Trivedi said that the center is closed. Anganwadi center in-charge Asha worker Nirmala Devi does not come.
Calling parents and giving them the work of children
When we asked that the children not come, they said that due to Corona, they are studying online, but most of the parents do not have the resources. When asked what she does, she said that she called the parents and gave them the work of the children. Mid-day meal is provided with ration.
