Tennis mega summer to be held in Melbourne Park

Sydney, 3 January (IANS) The Australian Open will host the ATP Cup, two WTA 500 events and two ATP 250 tournaments after 2021. Tennis Australia gave its information on Sunday.

Tennis Australia is confident of organizing tennis matches in Melbourne Park, despite ongoing Covid cases in Victoria.

“It is possible for the sports group to have the opportunity to organize more and more competition during our several months of planning for the Australian Open,” Xinhua quoted Australian Open Director Craig Tille as saying.

This, he said, has been an incredibly difficult year for all and players have had limited opportunities to compete throughout 2020. These additional events will be crucial to their Australian Open preparations.

The ATP Cup will be held from February 1 to 5 and will feature teams from 12 countries. At the same time, two WTA tournaments and two ATP 250 tournaments to be held from 31 January to 6 February will be attended by 64 singles players and 32 doubles players.

Another WTA 250 tournament will be held from 13 to 19 February, off the Australian Open.

The Australian Open is to be played at Melbourne Park from 8 to 21 February.
