Bangkok, January 12 (IANS). India’s leading badminton player Saina Nehwal and men’s player HS Prannoy have been found to be Corona positive and due to this both of them have withdrawn their name from Thailand Open starting here on Tuesday.

Badminton Association of India has also confirmed this. BAI has tweeted and said that Saina and Prannoy have been found to be Corona positive.

BAI has said in its tweet that apart from Saina, Prannoy has also been found to be Corona positive. According to BAI, both the players will remain isolated in the hospital for the next 10 days.

BAI Secretary Ajay Singhania has issued a statement saying that he is constantly in touch with the Badminton World Federation, management, sportspersons and officials.

Saina was found positive after the third round test on Monday. Saina was scheduled to play her first match on the first day of the tournament on Tuesday.

Saina had earlier participated in the All England Open in March last year. She was going to play her first match since March last year.

Prannoy was to take on Malaysia’s Li Jia in his first round match on Tuesday.

This is the second time Saina and Prannoy have been found to be Corona positive. Last month, Saina was found to be Corona positive along with her husband and badminton player Parupalli Kashyap. Saina and Prannoy moved to Bangkok after being in Quarantine.

According to BAI, Kashyap has been kept quarantined in the hotel room due to Saina’s proximity and he has also withdrawn from the tournament.

According to BAI, the report of the remaining players in the Indian delegation has been negative and they are participating in the Thailand Open. These players will be tested further.
