Rizwan played a century of 109 off 136 balls against Ireland in the first match of the four-match ODI series in Abu Dhabi, playing for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
ICC Associate member UAE defeated Ireland, who were in Test team status, by six wickets.
In his conversation with IANAS after his historic century, Rizwan explained the meaning of representation of his country.
Asked if you are the first player from Kerala who has scored a century in ODIs and how are you feeling, Rizwan said, “I am feeling very happy and I am proud that Kerala I am the first person to score a century in ODIs. More important than this is that this century helped my team UAE win.
When asked about the atmosphere of cricket in Thalassery, Rizwan said, Thalassery is the crazy city of cricket. We all love sports very much and are very passionate about the sport there. We have been blessed with many great cricketers who have shared their experiences with the younger generation.
He said, I started as a leg-spinner and I was selected for the under-14 team. I then played my club cricket for the Students Cricket Club in Tasathri. I played for the Kerala team in the under-17 category for the first time and apart from being selected in the Kerala Ranji Trophy team in 2011, I have played at all levels from under-17 to under-25.
Asked what are the plans for the future? And do you expect to be invited from the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the coming season ?, he said, “I am doing one thing at a time.” Right now my focus is to play well for UAE and win matches for them. If I can do this consistently, then anything can happen. Anything is possible in cricket and life.
