One has to be cautious in defense against Argentina: Gurjeet Kaur

Buenos Aires, 14 January (IANS). The Indian women’s hockey team wants to capitalize on all its opportunities ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in July and in the same order is set to play an eight-match series in Argentina starting on Sunday.

Dragflicker Gurjit Kaur said, playing against a strong team like Argentina on their home ground is not easy but our focus will be on their best performance against them. This will be our first competitive competition after almost a year and we have been working hard on fitness since the beginning. We can assess our potential in front of a team like World No. 2 Argentina.

Gurjeet said that the team will be in good condition ahead of their first match on Sunday.

“We have been here for ten days and have practiced well on the field,” he said. We have looked at turning the penalty corner into goals and saving. We have to pay a lot of attention to defense against Argentina.

The Indian player further noted that Kovid-19 insisted on following protocols amid the epidemic.

Gurjeet said, “We are thankful to Hockey India and the Argentine Federation who have created a safe bio bubble.” We are in a good hotel which is only 20-25 minutes away from the grounds. The food is good and standard operating procedure (SOP) is being followed on the field.
