Odisha eyeing continuation of win against Chennai (preview)

Bombolim (Goa), 9 January (IANS). Things have not gone well for the two-time former champion Chennai FC in the seventh season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). He has won only one in the last eight matches and captain Rafael Crivellaro has been ruled out of the season.

Coach Kasaba Lajlo is keen to make a fresh comeback. Chennai now face Odisha FC at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Sunday, registering their first win of the season in the last match.

However, it was his worst performance of the season against Hyderabad, where he suffered a 1–4 defeat. Apart from eating four goals against Hyderabad, he also had to eat four goals in the first four matches. The team has scored only eight goals so far, the lowest in the league.

Lajla said, I think our performance in the last match was poor. I do not want to get away from it because we have made too many mistakes. I think everyone in my team will have to think about it after this match. From the first minute to the last, we were not really in the game. We have to change, we have to analyze mistakes and we have to go back to where we were before.

The foreign players of Chennai have scored only three goals so far, which is the lowest of any foreign team. Lajlo hopes that they will improve against Odisha.

Odisha coach Stuart Boxter is hopeful that he will continue it after the win against Kerala. They are still at the bottom of the table, but a win against Chennai will put them two points ahead of their husband.

It is important for that three points, said Boxter, that we need to give our players confidence and confidence. The players have done well to maintain their confidence and despite the results our confidence has never diminished. But, we need that rhythm to be achieved and now there is hope that we can move forward.
