Mumbai City FC over ATKMB in battle of superiority

Fatorda (Goa), 11 January (IANS). Mumbai City FC defeated defending champions ATK Mohun Bagan 1–0 in a much-awaited match of the seventh season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Monday. Bathorlomew Ogbeche scored the only goal of the match in the 69th minute.

This was the 10th match between the two teams and their first match this season. Mumbai, with their eighth win, have consolidated their position at the top with a total of 25 points, as ATKMB, ranked second, is left with 20 points. ATKMB received their second defeat of this season.

The first half of this match between table-toppers missed out on the expected goalless draw. It is important to mention that in this half there was only and only football, no foul between the two best teams of ISL-7. For this reason, despite the full 45 minutes of play, not a single booking was made.

However, Mumbai proved to be a better team in this half as they created more chances. Mumbai continued to attack, but did not succeed. The reason for this is that ATKMB’s defense played well.

Sandesh Jhingan was particularly impressed. In the 11th minute, there was a big attack by Mumbai, which was thwarted by Arindam Bhattacharya. Arindam made some more defenses and prevented Mumbai from taking the lead.

ATKMB, which scored fewer goals than Mumbai this season, could not create more chances and its star Rai Krishna was constantly surrounded by Mumbai players. For this reason, he looked helpless.

However, what happened at the beginning of the second half did not happen in the first half. ATKMB’s Prannoy Haladhar in the 47th minute and Mumbai’s Mandar Rao Desai got the yellow card in the 49th minute. ATKMB began this half with two changes. One of them was also Haladhar.

ATKMB and Mumbai made good moves in the 53rd and 54th minutes respectively, but none got success. ATKMB made another attack in the 58th minute but Idu Garcia’s shot hit the post and went directionless.

Arindam prevented Mumbai from scoring a goal in the 61st minute by blocking a shot from Bathorlomew Ogbeche. Javier Hernandez of ATKMB received a yellow card in the 62nd minute. Ogbeche made another attack with Hugo Boumos in the 69th minute and this time he managed to punch Arindam. Thus Mumbai took a 1-0 lead in this match.

Mumbai ousted Ogbeche in the 72nd minute to take one of their goal scorers, Adam LeFondre. In the 80th and 85th minutes, Mumbai made two more changes. ATKMB made two good strikes in the 82nd 83rd and 87th minute, but could not score a goal. Mautord Fall became an obstacle every time and forced him to lose his second season.
