In 1976, director Raj Khosla India was filming with the film ‘Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki’ actress Nutan. Meanwhile, director Raaz met Mohanish, son of Nutan, when he was just 15 years old. While Raaz came to his house to meet Nutan in connection with a film after three years, when he saw Mohnish, he had grown up and was fond of body building. That’s why Raj Khosla liked him at first.
He asked Nutan that Mohnish is interested in acting? Finally, the film was yes by Mohnish. Then Raj Khosla called him to his office and got Urdu trained. Everything was set but for some reason she could not make the film. However, some film people had come to know Mohnish. Due to this, he got his first film ‘History’ in the year 1981.
Mohnish was also working in the film alongside Raj Kumar, Shabana Azmi, Rati Agnihotri and Anil Kapoor. The film was released in 1987. It took a long time between the film’s making and release. By then, his career had started and almost ended.
Mohnish gave 5 flops
On 14 August 1961, a son was born by actress Nutan. Named Mohnish. Mohnish had a dream that he would become an Airforce pilot. Papa said that serving the country is a good thing, but Mohnish will not be able to fit in the lifestyle there. Whereas the mother wanted her to serve the country like a father. During this time, Mohnish started getting film offers.
Nutan said to Mohnish-
“I can’t teach you acting.” But whatever you do, do it honestly. My nose is very long, so keep blowing my feet. “
Then Mohnish worked in the film ‘History’. Nutan was shown that film. Nutan did not say anything to Mohnish after watching the film. When Mohnish asks him how his work was, Nutan just said that open his mouth and pronounce the words.
Stop speaking Hindi in English accent. Mohnish understood this very well. Between 1982 and 86, he acted in a total of 6 films. Early in the career 5 out of 6 flops.
Salman enters Mohnish’s life
Mohnish was fond of body building and becoming a pilot. During this unemployment, he thought of making his hobby his profession. He started training to become a pilot in the Bombay Flying Club. He was fond of body-building, so he used to go to the gym of C-Rock Hotel. This is where he met Salman Khan. Salman also wanted to act. But his body was very thin and thin at that time and the height was also good. Mohnish used to take them lightly.
Salman told Mohnish that he has to become an actor, then Mohnish mocked him and said – ‘When I do not move even after 6 feet height and such a good body, you will become an actor.’
Meanwhile, Salman Khan got the lead role in Sooraj Barjatya’s film Maine Pyaar Kiya. When Salman’s casting became final. Salman returned and met Mohnish and told that he had found the film. Also, he told Mohnish that if he is interested in playing the villain, then he can audition for this film.
Nutan gave condition to Tarachand Barjatya
Mohnish returned to his home from Tarachand Barjatya. He told the whole thing to Nutan. Nutan was a very famous actress. People used to stand respectfully after seeing him.. Nutan called Tarachand Barjatya and said- ‘Don’t punish my son because he is my son’. He meant to let Mohnish play the villain.
Tarachand Ji obeyed Nutan and made a promise to him. He said that he will definitely cast Mohnish in his film in positive and lead roles.. Well, I started shooting for ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’. ‘Main Pyar Kiya’ was released on 29 December 1989 and became a hit. Salman and Bhagyashree became superstars overnight. Mohnish’s image was made over there. He became the most popular villain from Flop Hero. Everyone wanted him in the role of Villain in his film.
Mother died of cancer, father died of burns
After ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, Mohnish then appeared in ‘Baaghi’ with Salman, ‘Hina’ with Rishi Kapoor, ‘Bol Radha Bol’ and in the negative roles in Shah Rukh Khan’s debut film ‘Deewana’. On 16 July 1989, his father picked him up and told him to go to the hospital. Mother’s health is not good. While returning from the hospital, Nutan tells Mohnish that he has breast cancer. Treatment began but within a year Nutan’s cancer spread to the liver. His condition started deteriorating. At the same time, Mohnish had to leave for Ooty to shoot for his film Shola Aur Shabnam. He went to the hospital to visit his mother before going to Ooty. He went to see his mother.
Nutan looked at them and smiled. This was the last time Mohnish saw his mother alive. On 20 February 1991, Mohnish received a call in Ooty that his mother’s health was very bad. Then he reached Mumbai at 4:30 pm on 21 February, by then Nutan had passed.
Mohnish’s father also passed away 13 years after the incident. Rajneesh Bahl lived in a 32-male apartment in the Colaba area of Mumbai. On August 3, 2004, a fire broke out in this apartment. Fire department vacated the entire apartment. They did not know that Rajneesh is on the 32nd floor. Mohnish’s father Rajneesh Bahl died in this fire.
Mohnish got a chance to prove his range
Then came an opportunity when Mohnish got another chance to prove his range as an actor. Producer Tarachand Barjatya from this film also fulfilled his promise to cast Mohnish from Nutan in a positive role, but Nutan was not alive to see it all.
In the year 1994, in the film Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Mohnish played Salman’s elder brother. Mohnish’s performance was highly appreciated. But this praise could not get him any different type of work. He once again appeared with Salman and Sooraj Barjatya in the Rajshri production film Hum Saath Saath Hain.
The film proved to be a huge success. But it proved to be his last film in a big role. He next appeared in films like ‘Beast’, ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’, ‘LOC Kargil’ and ‘Vivah’. But he did not have a memorable role in these films.
Due to this, the industry has not given work to Mohnish
After the film ‘Vivah’ in 2006, Mohnish appeared on the big screen in the year 2010. During this time he started doing TV. His TV career started in the year 2002 with the show ‘Sanjeevani’ on Star Plus. In this, he played the role of a doctor. After this he appeared in Ramanand Sagar’s TV show ‘Arzoo Hai Tu’. In response to why no filmmaker is offering him work, he says- Because the filmmakers started to feel that Mohnish now does TV, he would have issues with casting.
Mohnish Bahl appeared in this film for the last time
In 2014, Mohnish returned from Salman Khan’s film ‘Jai Ho’. In the year 2019, Ashutosh Gowariker’s Arjun Kapoor appeared in the starrer film Panipat. During this time, he was constantly active in TV. In the year 1992, he married actress Ekta Sohini, who is known as Aarti Bahl. They have two daughters, Pranutan and Trisha.
Pranutan has also made her Bollywood debut with Salman Khan’s production ‘Notebook’. Mohnish’s younger daughter is still studying. Mohnish stays in Mumbai with his family.
