Ganguly underwent angioplasty, now out of danger (lead-4)

Kolkata, 2 January (IANS) Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI president and former captain of the Indian cricket team, underwent angioplasty on Saturday and is now out of danger. Ganguly was admitted to Kolkata’s Woodlands Municipality Hospital in the afternoon after complaining of chest pain.

Ganguly is at Woodlands Hospital under the supervision of Saroj Mondal, a professor and doctor at SSKM Hospital in the city.

Mondal said, Sourav Ganguly’s condition is now stable and he has undergone angioplasty. He is still conscious and stable. He had complained of chest pain while at home doing gym workouts.

The doctor said that Ganguly was brought to the hospital immediately, where he has been provided all kinds of medical facilities.

She has undergone angiography and angioplasty, Mondal said. Now he is stable. He will soon be able to join his daily activities.

Meanwhile sources say that he has two holes in his heart for which he will be treated. A stent insertion has been done because 90 percent of the blockage was found in his arteries. They will be kept under surveillance for the next 48 hours.

Ganguly was exercising in his home gym and during this time he got dizzy and then complained of blackout. He called his family doctor who advised him to be hospitalized immediately.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted, Sad to hear the news of Sourav Ganguly. He has suffered a minor heart attack and is hospitalized. I wish him well soon. My prayers are with him and his family.

The source said that after being brought to the hospital, he underwent ECG test. He is now fine and out of danger. They may require angioplasty. Troponin t test has also been performed.

Sources said that Dr. Saroj Mondal is supervising Ganguly at the hospital. Now he has been admitted to the Emergency Intensive Care Room (ICU).

West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim and Minister Arup Biswas went to the hospital to know Ganguly’s health. West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar also visited the hospital with his wife and inquired about Ganguly’s health.
