Chennai and Odisha played goalless draw

Bombolim (Goa), 10 January (IANS). In the seventh season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL), the match played between Chennaiyin FC and Odisha FC at the GMC Stadium in Bombolim here on Sunday was a goalless draw.

Chennai have drawn a draw for the fifth time in 10 matches and the team is now at number eight with 11 points. At the same time, this is Odisha’s third draw in 10 matches and the team has reached number 10 in the table with six points. There is only one win on the part of the team.

Two-time former champion Chennaiyun got a big chance in the second minute, but Rahim Ali could not open his team’s account. Only eight minutes later, Brazilian forward Diego Mauricio of Odisha drove the ball into the net via a header, but then the lineman called it offside and Mauricio, who scored two goals in the previous match, could not open his account this time.

Following this Odisha invasion, Chennai captain Eli Sabia hit a fine header in the 17th minute, which went over the crossbar. In the 24th minute, the first yellow card of the match went to Sabia’s partner Enes Sipovic.

Three minutes later, Anirudh Thapa, playing his 77th match for Chennai, lost the opportunity to open the account of the team. After missing out in the eighth minute, Mauricio scored another big chance in the 42nd minute.

Cole entered the Chennai box with Mauricio Ball near Alexander. Mauricio then started celebrating by bringing the ball to the goalpost via a header when the linesman once again called it offside. Thus, both teams were goalless in the first half.

After the start of the second half, Jerry Mavatingthanga of Odisha made a brilliant move in the 55th minute on Jacob Trett’s assist, which was saved. The first change of the match came from the Chennai side in the 68th minute and the former two-time champion called Ismail Gonsalves on the field in place of Jacob Sylvester.

Two minutes later, Odisha made their first change and Manuel Onwu replaced Daniel. In the 71st minute, taking advantage of Odisha defender Steven Taylor, Rahim reached the goalkeeper with the ball. Rahim only had to punch the goalkeeper to open Chennai’s account, but Rahim’s decision to take a shot near the post proved to be wrong and he missed the opportunity here too.

Odisha’s treet was shown a yellow card in the 83rd minute. Seven minutes later, the contest entered into injury time, where both teams could not open their account and were forced to share points.
