Ashwin shows way like elder brother in Sydney Test: Vihari

Brisbane, 13 January (IANS). Indian Test team batsman Hanuma Vihari has said that Ravichandran Ashwin guided him like an elder brother in the Sydney Test. India were successful in drawing the third Test match on the basis of durable innings of these two.

Speaking to BCCI.com, Vihari said, batting in the last over was a great experience. It was something you could only think of in a dream – batting on the fifth day of a Test match, a series 1–1 draw. If you can do it for the team, then this satisfaction gradually gives you peace and then you realize what a huge effort it was.

He said, I am very happy. Like an elder brother, he was talking to me whenever he felt that I was getting a bit disappointed. He was telling me to only focus on one ball at a time. Take it as long as you can, take it 10 balls at a time .. It was very special.

Ashwin scored 39 runs off 128 balls and during this time his back was also hurting. Vihari said that India could have won the match if Cheteshwar Pujara were till the last.

He said, it was a great result for us to have a draw in that match. I thought if I am not injured and if Pujara is here then we will have the result in our favor and it will be a great win. But still getting 10 marks is a big result.

Pujara had faced 77 off 205 balls. It was only after he was dismissed that Vihari and Ashwin struck a brilliant partnership and ensured that the match was drawn.

The four-match Test series is currently 1–1.
