Sydney, 11 January (IANS) At the beginning of his innings on the fifth and final day of the third Test against Australia, Indian batsman Ravichandran Ashwin faced short balls and contributed to the draw of the match.
However Ashwin says that practicing Jasprit Bumrah’s short balls in the nets helped him to face the short balls.
Pat Cummins was bowling in a different way altogether, Ashwin said. There was a little bounce, so it was tough against Cummins. I think it is not easy to face Bumrah in the Nets. We have bowlers who can bowl at a speed of 150. I was batting well at the nets.
Ashwin said on Twitter after the match, “If you are injured then it doesn’t matter.” Just stay there and you will have the opportunity to fight another day. Test cricket teaches you to live.
Ashwin scored 29 not out off 128 balls. But he, along with Hanuma Vihari, batted for over 40 overs and drew the match.
Ashwin was in a lot of pain on Sunday night and could not even stand upright when he woke up on Monday morning. Ashwin’s wife Prithi gave this information.
Ashwin’s wife Prithi tweeted, saying that he slept at night with great pain. When I woke up in the morning, I could not even stand upright He could not even bow down to tie his shoes. Today I am surprised by what Ravichandran Ashwin did.
Ashwin has so far scored 78 runs in three matches of this series and has taken 12 wickets in total.
The four-match series is currently 1–1. Australia and India will now look to win the fourth Test starting in Brisbane on Friday.
