AFC praised China for preparations for Asian Cup 2023

Beijing, 9 January (IANS). Windsor John, Secretary General of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), has praised China for the preparations for the Asian Cup 2023 amid the Kovid-19 epidemic.

As reported by the news agency Xinhua, John said in an online interview, the AFC is working closely with the Local Organizing Committee (LoC) as well as the Chinese Football Association (CFA). Cooperation between all the parties continues smoothly.

“We have seen some significant progress since the AFC and CFA hosted the Asian Cup 2023 meeting in July 2019,” he said.

According to the AFC, a joint meeting was held in Beijing in January 2020, which formed an effective working relationship to direct site construction. LOC was established in Beijing in October last year for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

China plans to build and renovate 10 stadiums in 10 host cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xian, Dalian, Qingdao, Zhejiang and Suzhou.

Renovation work is already underway at the iconic Beijing Workers Stadium, while the main part of the new Pudong Stadium was completed in late 2020 and eight other grounds are in various stages of construction.
