Controversy has arisen over the Adani Group’s use of its name in three Howard bases of the country. The government-controlled Airports Authority of India (AAI) has objected against Adani Enterprises against the Adani Group’s move. In this regard, the authority has said that Adani has violated the agreement of both the parties by using his name. The Adani Group has used its name at Mangaluru, Lucknow and Ahmedabad airports.
According to the Concession Agreement, the names of airports cannot be changed to give prominence to a particular company or share holders. AAI has objected in this regard by writing a letter to the three airports at Mangaluru, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The Adani Group wrote to Mangaluru Airport on 21 December. The letter states that it has been found that the Adani group names indicated at the airports are against the terms of the concession agreement. Adani airports have been found written in some places which is a gross violation of the agreement.
The Adani Group has formed a separate subsidiary for each of the airports. According to the concession agreement, if a company wants to use its name, it will have to give the same place to the Airports Authority of India name and symbol. The Howard Adda or any part thereof may not be used in any way to advertise, exhibit or name and identify the company or shareholders involved in the agreement.
At the same time, according to another provision, if a company wants to show its name or the name of shareholders in a public place, then it must first indicate the name of AAI.
The operational management and development leases to six airports have been handed over to the Adani Group. The legal provisions under the agreement must be followed by all parties. Last year, these airports have been leased as part of the privatization initiative of airports. These airports have been assigned under Public Private Partnership. These include Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mangaluru and Guwahati airports. After the highest bidding under the bidding process, Adani has been given the right to operate the airports for 50 years.
